Exciting Times!

Witness the launch of Kichanga new Dhow Boat

It is with much delight that I have been given the opportunity of posting our very first blog entry along with the launch of our new website.

Building this website has been a work in progress, as we are aware that we have been in need of an upgrade to our previous website, we have also been very conscious of ensuring this new website offers you, the user an easy journey. One that is honest and does not deceive you into thinking we are something that we are not. Having said this, we would like to use this opportunity to thank our very patient web designer Dan.

However, launching this new website is not the only new addition to the Kichanga family of late, we have a new arrival, her name is “JAZBA”…

“JAZBA”, is indeed our new dhow boat, I had the privilege of returning to Kichanga this last month, to witness the launch of this beauty. What an affair it was!

After a month of gutting, stripping, ripping and rebuilding, followed by a visit from her makeup artist. “JAZBA” was ready to be launched into the crystal blues of her new home!

Boat restorationFinally on the 20th of July 2013, the right time arrived. The tide was high and the Michamvi fishing village were there in full force to help assist in this mammoth of a task.  Every guest and member of the village were there, excited to be a part of this moment. Pulling out all the stops, shirts off for some, sleeves rolled up for others, however every man and his dog on the beach had his muscles buffed and were ready for some “HEEVE HO”…Boat warming up

After an hour of “Twende twende” – the Swahili word for “let’s go, let’s go” then “Simama”, meaning STOP and “Hatari” for danger… what a fiasco… she was in and afloat…mission accomplished!Boat pulling

Boat to sea

I would like to thank the village for their enthusiasm to be a part of this very exciting time @ Kichanga.Boat floating

In closing, I would now like to give you the opportunity to see more and be part of the fun, by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
